How to build a Windows 7 VM from a VHD lacking boot manager
I am trying to build a Windows 7 VM (P2V) based on a VHD image of the C: partition of a physical Windows 7 PC. The VHD is a complete image of the system volume, but is not the boot partition and is lacking the boot manager, etc. However, it has a good copy of Windows 7 Home Premium on it, as well as all the apps and data. I'm not sure how to go about installing boot manager, etc. on the VHD before using it to build the VM. However, I was wondering if there is another approach - perhaps building the VM with a new VHD that is bootable, but without the OS, and then adding the existing VHD with Windows on it to the VM as another partition. Any suggestions / guidance will be most appreciated.

IMHO yours is a Windows support question - the problem and answer would be exactly the same if you were trying to move the image to a physical PC with similar specs. VirtualBox doesn't change anything. So, perhaps you should direct your question to Microsoft.
