If I update Virtualbox does that mean that I must reinstall my Windows VM? -- Bonita

You don't have to, but it doesn't mean it will be running directly after. If you don't do a major update (from 3.x.x to 4.x.x) you're fine.
What is your current version and to where do you want to go?

Then you shouldn't have any trouble. Simply install the new version and you should be fine.
