Win 7 on Win 8: no USB recognition ...
hello everyone
I know there is the manual. But as a beginner I really have a hard time understanding even the basic stuff.
Finally I was able to install the Guestaddition, but now, Win 7 32 bit on Win 8 64 bit does not recognize the usb sticks I'm adding.
What is missing or what am I doing wrong?
Thank you very much for your help.
kind regards
louis

Re: Win 7 on Win 8: no USB recognition ...
thank you for your help.
we did that after upgrading as suggested by VB to version 4.3.8.
VB says that the extension packs are OK.
but still no USB recognition.
the system is
HP Envy all in one
OS: windows 8.1 64bit
CPU: intel Core i3-4010, 1.7
RAM: 4 GB
thank you for further help.

You would probably find it easier to access the memory stick as a shared folder.

Especially since you have an HP all in one printer on the host. I had a lot of issues with their drivers causing VBox USB to not work at all. Come to find out it was the HP card reader driver that I never used but was causing a conflict.

by "HP envy all in one" I actually ment the PC, kind of a tablet PC.
but you are right anyways because there is also a HP OJ 8600 plugged to the PC by USB and of course is not recognized.
how could I solve this problem?
thanks again.

thanks again for your help.
the main problem is actually, that the printer (hp officejet 8600) is not recognized by USB.
is there a way to resolve that problem?
thank you

Re: Win 7 on Win 8: no USB recognition ...
Really? Your first post said "USB sticks".
Having VMs each steal ownership of the USB port when they need the printer isn't really a good option. The best way to make the printer available to VMs is as a network share. Details of how to network share a printer can be found on Google. In VBox you would best configure the VM for host-only or bridged networking, depending on your other requirements.

Re: Win 7 on Win 8: no USB recognition ...
The VM has no WLAN connection I'm afraid. If your host has wireless then you can try bridging to that, though bridging to wireless can be problematic (wireless connections aren't designed to be multidropped). You would be better off with a network share served by the host, as described on Google.
