Cannot run VirtualBox as Admin

Post by Holger_S »

Hello Community,

i cannot run virtualbox as admin.
I got the error CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE 0x80080005 Server execution failed.
---VirtualBox COM Server is not running or failed to start---

There are not more information in the error, just that.
I need it to run on higher privileges, because of vboxmanage.
If i run it normaly, i got the same error in cmd.

Do you know this issue and can help me please ?

Thanks a lot.

PS:
I already reinstalled the VBox and tried that, not working...

Usually you don't need to do that. What makes you think that you need to do it. Re-installation will not help you. You shouldn't run VBox as administrator.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

There is a difference between running with adminstrator privileges, and running under the user account called "Admin". The former may be necessary in order to install drivers, the latter is not recommended.

Hi mpack,

New user here. So does that mean we should:

log in as Admin,
install / update drivers,
logout,
use as normal user.

No, it means log in as your normal user account and use "Run as administrator..." to run the VBox installer with temporary admin rights.
