Can't access Ubuntu Desktop after booting from EFI

Post by Sreyan »

I am trying to live boot from a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64 image. But I can't seem to start the desktop environment. I am offered the Ubuntu command prompt.

Have a look at the following image-:

If I type

Code: Select all

startx
I get the following error-:

Image

When I boot in normal Legacy style no such problem takes place. What is the meaning of "No Screens Found" ? And how do I work around this problem. I must boot using EFI.

I have tried-:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
sudo service gdm start
The above does not help since gdm is a "unrecognized service".

Hoping for a workaround for this problem.

This has nothing to do with VirtualBox. You need to ask the Ubuntu forum folks on how to install and use their product.

If this was nothing to do with VirtualBox then I wouldn't be able to boot into Ubuntu (UEFI) from my PC. I can boot fine from my USB when it is connected to my PC, but I can't do the same for VirtualBox. So yes I think its a virtual box issue.

Strange I had to read your post three time and I saw no mention of trying to use USB to boot. VirtualBox does not support USB boot.

I am not booting from a USB when I am using Virtual Box. I am using a .iso image when I am using Virtual Box. That same image I am burning it onto my USB via Unetbootin and then booting Ubuntu from there when I am booting from my PC.

Yes, but it can be done. Via rawdisk access. I've done it. ;)

Could you please post the url of the webpage where the iso that you downloaded is?
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
