Had trouble geting Win95 networking to work
Could not see host or anything else
Had to go to Control panel - network and add protocol
Microsoft NetBIEU and TCP/IP
Windows95 networking

I would say that if that is all you had to do, you have been quite fortunate.
Networking in Windows 95 works perfectly well when you have got it going, but it can be fiddly to install. I found I had to install a DUN upgrade (which I didn't need, but it installed TCP/IP as a by-product), and then had to remove the protocols that I wasn't using.
