cannot connect usb drive to guest after power failure

My host is running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 with Virtualbox Version 4.3.6.

I have 3 gust machines. One of them being a local file server for my home network running Ubuntu Server 12.10. The shared files are on a 1TB USB drive. I have had no issues until the other day I lost power to the host. I brought the host back in service opened virtulbox and started guest. I have a USB filter so it normally just grabs the USB drive on boot. This time however it did not. So I right clicked the USB icon in the guest window and selected the drive. I got an error that it is busy because it is in use by thee host. After this my drive is no longer available in the host either. I might add, I have no issue with this drive in the host OS only when trying to connect to a guest VM on that host. As a test I have also tried to connect the drive to another guest on the same host with the same result. In addition I tried to connect it to a guest on a completely different host and there was no issue. I also did research the error given and followed directions outlined to boot the guest and then plug in the USB drive and that did not work and I also added a blank filter a suggested but no success. I know form working with some older VMware based hosts that power failure is not a good thing. I can only imagine that it has something to do with that. Any help would be great.

Try reinstalling Virtualbox - could have been a corruption in the install/driver due to the power loss. Also check the event log for any possible driver issue.
If none work, provide a VM log file and the guest settings as described here.
