Ubuntu virtual machine crashing during install

I am a college student and need to get a collection of VMs for a NOS Class. So far all the windows VMs I've needed to create for this class have worked with no problems at all, it's been running splendidly. I'm attempting to add a Linux distro and my professor recommended Ubuntu. I've got a few problems so far that I've been trying to narrow down.

1) I have no Extensions subfolder in my VirtualBox folder. It doesn't exist for some god awful reason.

2) I have been trying to install an extension that was also recommended by my professor and when I do I get the follow error:

Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:
ExtPackManager
Interface:
IExtPackManager {3295e6ce-b051-47b2-9514-2c588bfe7554}

No clue what is causing that.

I have deleted (fully) VirtualBox from my computer and reinstalled at the recommendation of other threads. Rummaged through the internet and come up at a loss. I'll be seeing my professor tomorrow during class but I much prefer doing things this way because I figure that if anything happens when I'm done with college I won't have a professor to turn to and beg for help. I'll have the internet and any resources I can scrounge up.

Information:

I am running VBox 4.3.6 on Windows 8.1.
I am trying to install VBox extension for 4.3.6.
I am trying to create a Virtual Machine for Ubuntu 13.10 (I have also tried the older version of Ubuntu 12.04.3.

I'm not sure which log you need, but I have included the attached log from my Ubuntu VM Folder. If I missed anything I'll be glad to give more.
