problem mounting shared folder in CentOS guest on Win8 host

Post by gscratchvb »

VBOX 4.3.6
HOST Windows8.1 Enterprise (64-bit)
GUEST CentOS 6.5 (64-bit)
GUEST Ubuntu 12 LTS (64-bit)

I am unable to mount a shared folder on the CentOS guest. the error is
/sbin/mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: No such device
I believe that Guest Additions are installed because before the install, the error was something like "unknown file system vboxsf"
the Windows folder is configured in VBox Manager as Auto-mount (although it doesn't seem to do so) and Make Permanent

The same (Windows folder) mounts correctly on the Ubuntu guest (both guests are NOT running at the same time).

I have read the Tutorials and searched this forum, but if I've missed something, I apologize; please point me to it.

thanks,

I apologize: my fault. I did not install the Linux headers on the CentOS guest as stated in the Tutorial.

my question is: the apt-get command works for Ubuntu. May I ask what is the equivalent CentOS ?

thanks,

SOLVED mounting shared folder in CentOS guest on Win8 h

yes, if I had spent a few minutes researching this instead of posting, I would have figured that out.

I am now able to mount the shared folders.

thanks for your indulgence.
