Comm Port Not Enabled

Post by Torie_CSU »

Hi!

I am using a Linux host with Windows 7 (64 bit) guest. For VirtualBox I am using interface version 4.1.12_Ubuntu.

The problem I am running into is that in a program I am running on the guest I need to connect to a USB device; however, whenever I try to connect to the USB in the program I get the error message "Comm Port Not Enabled". The USB device is showing up in the device manager and it says it is enabled. I have spent all morning trying to troubleshoot the problem with no luck. Am I missing a guest addition or something? Thanks so so much for any help! I am very new to this so sorry if it is a simple problem. :D :D :D

For some reason under the virtual box settings when I had the box next to 'Enable USB 2.0' checked, it wasn't working. I just unchecked that box and now its working!

The second checkbox enables USB2 support inside the guest - it has nothing to do with a particular device, though or all I know the USB1 controller has a different set of built in device supports. AFAIK it shouldn't prevent a USB1 device from working though I guess it's possible.

Did you install the correct USB-RS232 device driver inside the guest? The fact that a driver may be installed on the host doesn't help, and the guest won't see any comm port until a comm port driver is installed.

CP2102? What are you connecting to, a breadboard Arduino perhaps?
