I can't play sound using IE10/11 HTML5 Audio element in a Virtual Box VM.
Audio is working in Chrome or simply a Media Player. Also got it to work in Win 2008 after installing the "Desktop Experience" feature.
In RDP to a vmware VM I have to have "play sounds" option turned on and then it works. But in VirtualBox I wasn't able to do so.
Any idea?
Thanks.

Re: HTML5 Audio element in IE11
The nature of the software running inside the guest is not relevant to a VM. All that matters is how the guest OS plays sounds, and whether you have configured the sound correctly in the VM recipe with respect to the features of your host OS. Unfortunately you don't give many clues about your VM recipe.
If you are saying that the guest is configured correctly, most apps work, only IE10 has problems, then that is something you'd have to ask Microsoft about.

Re: HTML5 Audio element in IE11
The VM is a freshly installed Win 2008 R2 with "Desktop Experience". There's really not much to it as it was installed specifically for this html5 audio test.
It is clear that MS implementation here is, well, weird. But as I did get it to work (eventually) on a vmware VM, I have no idea why in VirtalBox it does not work. I can only assume that the MS implementation for some reason acknowledges the audio in the vmware but not the one I have on VirtualBox.
I can ask the question differently: have you been able to play html5 audio sounds like in soundcloud[dot]com using a VirtualBox VM with IE10/11?

Re: HTML5 Audio element in IE11
Audio is working fine in my VMs, however I use FireFox (not IExx) and I don't really pay much attention to whether the video is HTML5 or Flash etc. It shouldn't really matter what the audio source is, all that should matter are the audio output capabilities of the guest OS.ewolfman wrote:I can ask the question differently: have you been able to play html5 audio sounds like in soundcloud[dot]com using a VirtualBox VM with IE10/11?
What is your host OS, and how have you configured the audio in the VM settings? (e.g. show a screenshot of the audio panel).
Re: HTML5 Audio element in IE11
FF and Chrome are not the problem. The problem is unique to IE.
The host is Win7 Professional 64bit with 16GB memory and Core i5.
I attached several pics. Please click on them to view in full.

Re: HTML5 Audio element in IE11
HTML5 audio works with FireFox inside the VM? That would imply there is nothing wrong with the VM or even with the guest OS. If you have a support issue with IE then you really should pursue that on a Microsoft forum.ewolfman wrote:FF and Chrome are not the problem. The problem is unique to IE.
Re: HTML5 Audio element in IE11
Attached is a FF pic.
MS has made some weird decisions here with the IE audio implementation, I totally agree (I also posted a bug with them).
I also believe that the VM and guest are OK.
And yet, IE seems to mistakenly interpret as if no audio component is available, in the VirtualBox VM, as opposed to the vmware VM. Perhaps this is some tweaking or settings that needs to be done but currently I have no idea what. (I also tried to VRDP to the VirtualBox VM with sound settings but was unable to reach it to see if it works, but that is another issue.)
I would be happy if someone else can also try IE html5 audio element in VirtualBox, it if it is not too much trouble, and confirm or reject this issue.
Thanks.

Re: HTML5 Audio element in IE11
Did you ever manage to fix this?
I have the same problem. It's not a browser issue. IE10 and 11 does not play HTMLAudio inside Virtualbox. If you test the same page outside of virtualbox everything works just fine. I've spent multiple hours now, thinking that something was wrong with my code, only to realize that virtualBox (or my setup of it) is wrong.

Works for me with Windows 7 ( IE11 ) on a Linux host.
