USB problems
USB problems
Hi everybody!
I got win8.1, and i'm using win7 on the virtual machine.
i'm doing this because i need to upgrade my phone, but it seems that no upgrade can be made with win8/8.1, so i'm using win7 on the wirtual machine, so i dont have to install a whole OS just to do a 5 minutes operation.
the problem is that when i connect my phone is isnt detected, like i havent plugged it.
How can i "activate" the USB ports??
i have virtual box puel

Re: USB problems
- Make sure that the extension pack is installed.
- Create a USB filter in your guest settings while the device is plugged in the host. Delete all values except VendorID and ProductID.
- Unplug the device.
- Start your guest (the one that you applied the filter to). Let it start completely. Log in if you have to.
- Plug your device. The filter should capture it and pass control to your guest.
- If the device shows up in your host and is not captured by the filter, either the filter is incorrect, or there might be a problem with your filter installation.
- If the device shows up, but as unavailable, "eject" it from your host, but leave it plugged in. It should show up as available.
- Are you by any chance using a USB 3.0 port?

Re: USB problems
I'm using win8.1 on the computer, win7 on the machine.
I followed ALL of the steps above.
when the VB window's on focus no phone is detected at all.
if i connect the phone while VB window's not on focus the phone is detected by win8.1, but not from the VB machine
maybe its just the filter properties
i got them like this: its in italian, but i think you can guess the translation

Re: USB problems
The USB id 0bda:0139 belongs to a Realtek RTS5139 USB card reader.
Are you sure your phone shows up with this ID?

Re: USB problems
Run the following command in a command prompt located in the Virtualbox install directory with your VM shutdown and your phone plugged in & detected by the host. Post back the output:
Code: Select all
vboxmanage list usbhostHyperbox - Virtual Infrastructure Manager - https://apps.kamax.lu/hyperbox/

Re: USB problems
USB 0fce:0171 is a Sony phone
Some devices inside your system are also connected (internally) to USB, therefore they appear in the list.

Re: USB problems
If it helps - here is my recent experience with USB devices running on Windows 2000 as guest on Windows 7 (64b)
After upgrading to VirtualBox 4.3.6 and extensions USB did not recognize any USB devices, but everything worked fine before the upgrade. Eventually with the help of 'Mr7WFIL's' method with (somewhat shortened) it was fixed and I can now access printer, scanner etc as before.
Method:
1) Search for REGEDIT in Windows Search
2) Go into EDIT in this screen
3) Search for upperfilters using the FIND option
4) Change the name slightly, for example upperfiltersx worked with me
5) Some people suggest deleting this line completely, but I err on the side of caution.
Good luck from clyde1
