Can't restore VM Disk image, but can backup

I use Macrium Backup Pro to backup my VM images from Oracle VB 4.3.6 on a Windows 7x64 host.
I can backup, but not restore from a different backup image.
Why?

Sounds like a question that should be asked in a Macrium forum.
I do this routinely with Symantec Ghost, I boot to an ISO image that has Windows PE on it and run Ghost, to backup AND restore OSs. I treat them just as I would a physical box. There is no reason that VBox should not allow it.
If you have issues with macrium them why not simply shut the VM down and make a copy of the entire virtual disk file? Restoration would be as easy as overwriting the file.
