Trouble installing WIndows 7 Professional 64bit guest

Post by virtualtrouble »

I am having issues installing Windows 7 Professional 64bit guest on my Virtualbox 4.3.6.

I continue to receive the following message repeatedly:

Windows Failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language and then click "Next"
3. Click "Repair your computer"

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe

Status: 0xc000035a

Info: Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode.

Host Details:
OS: WIndows 8.1 64-bit.
Processor: Intel Core i5
RAM 8gb
Virtualization Enabled in Bios = yes

Enabled I/O Apic

When creating virtual machine, I choose Windows 7 as there is no selection for Windows 7 64-bit.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

1) 64-bit guests need hardware-virtualzation enabled in the hosts bios.
2) when creating the 64-bit guest you must select 64-bit in General -> Basic -> version.
3) If running Windows as host you must make sure hyper-v or xp mode is not enabled on the host. MS does not play well and wants it all.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. There is no option to select 64bit under General>Basic>Version for Windows 7. What would be the next steps?
