Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard only sees 4MB disk space

Post by Sanek »

Hello,

I'm trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (64-bit) in a brand new VM. I created a dynamic 100GB disk for it, but it only sees 4MB unallocated space during the install (I'm assuming that's the initial size). Am I forgetting something here? Would really prefer not to allocate a fixed 100GB image for this if I can.

VirtualBox 4.3.6 running in Windows 7 Enterprise x64

Thank you!

Dynamic should work just fine. Only issues I have seen are from pirated software or corrupt install iso. Check the md5sum

MD5 is fine: 0207ef392c60efdda92071b0559ca0f9 (its from MSDN)

Weird - I deleted the old disk (I noticed that it was saying that the virtual max was 4MB), recreated it and everything worked. The only difference is that the first time I entered in 100 GB manually and the second time I just dragged the slider to about the 100 GB mark.

I can bet you anything that you simply entered "100" and not "100 GB". Try it again with a not-necessarily-a-real-VM to see where the slider ends up. Way far to the left ;)
