Entering Windows Product Key on new style iMac

Hi guys, sorry you must have heard this a thousand times before...
I downloaded an ISO for Windows 7 Home edition to use on my VM on my parents' iMac. It works fine but now windows is prompting me to enter a product key. I've been looking on amazon for a cheap product key that i can pay for, download and enter, but there doesn't seem to be any available. The only options (as far as i can see) are to buy a windows 7 cd/dvd and then use the product key that comes with it to validate windows.
Given that i have a) a new style iMac without a cd/dvd drive and b) already have windows installed up and running on my VM, will entering the product key which comes with Windows CDs/DVDs that you can purchase off say Amazon, be ok; are there any unforeseen problems that i should be aware of? Obviously i'd have to buy a Windows 7 Home edition key/cd to match.
I know i need to buy a cd with the full version of windows on it rather than an upgrade.
I'm guessing that it shouldn't be an issue but i wanted to check with you guys.
Thanks
