VirtualBox & OS X Mavericks - Kernel Panic

Post by fedegiust »

Hi Guys,

I've got this Macbook Pro 13 Inch Mid 2010 Running OS X Mavericks.

Hardware Overview:

Code: Select all

  Model Name: MacBook Pro
  Model Identifier: MacBookPro7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
  Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
  Number of Processors: 1
  Total Number of Cores: 2
  L2 Cache: 3 MB
  Memory: 8 GB
  Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
  Boot ROM Version: MBP71.0039.B0E
  SMC Version (system): 1.62f7
  Serial Number (system): W8037U9AATM
  Hardware UUID: BBB275C8-2AD7-5F15-850D-BF83A6C00A59
  Sudden Motion Sensor:
  State: Enabled

I use VirtualBox to run a Windows 7 VM (work stuff). Today I upgraded to the latest version of VirtualBox 4.3.6.

After upgrading, I was trying to do an svn update in my VM and I got a kernel panic message and the system crashed twice.

After that, I downgraded to VirtualBox 4.2.22 and it seemed to be ok, at least it was for a few hours, and it crashed again while emptying the Bin in the VM.

I just downgraded again to 4.2.18 to see what happens.

If I don't run VirtualBox, everything runs normally.

This is the crash report.

Kernel Extensions in backtrace:
com.apple.nvidia.classic.NVDAResmanTesla(8.1.8)[0A1B6F41-168D-307A-BABD-162F3B3C2786]@0xffffff7f82c58000->0xffffff7f82ec6fff...
The first extension that is "blamed" is your NVIDIA GeForce 320M. Searching the webs for "com.apple.nvidia.classic.NVDAResmanTesla" returns a ton of kernel panics with not an easy to pinpoint. You should be asking Apple support and/or checking the Apple forums as well...
Oh, and please next time don't copy-paste the logs, it makes it difficult to read such a long post. It would be preferable if you attached them.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

After downgrading to VirtualBox 4.2.18 the kernel panic errors were gone, I've been using this version now since yesterday morning and had no crash or error messages.

It seems that any version above 4.2.18 are not compatible at least with my installation of Mavericks.
