I don't know why but I am having trouble getting the 64 bit aspect of my virtualbox running.

I have AMD-V running and I have windows 8.1 64 bit professional I believe.

My laptop use to run windows 7 professional and it was giving me all the options before like linux and linux(64 bit) and so on an so forth.

Well, I upgraded to the newer OS and since then, I haven't been able to use the 64 bit aspect of the program. I had to completely reinstall the program but it didn't help. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Given the lack of info, a total guess: turn off Hyper-v in the host.

Sorry for late reply but I can't turn it on or off, it is forced on by default. I updated the Bios and it still won't let me. Not sure what info you need though.

Hyper-v has nothing to do with the BIOS, it's a Windows 8 service that loads at boot time by default. And you can definitely turn it off - otherwise nobody around here could be using Windows 8.

You either have to remove Hyper-V or modify the laoder so that it does not load the hypervisor (which effectively means it doesn't work until you reboot). The thing is that at boot time, the hypervisor is loaded even before the OS (and it locks itself to hardware virtualization). The parameter which determines this in the loader is the hyperviserlaunchtype. When Hyper-V is installed this is set to auto and the hypervisor loads.
