Hi,
I am running a 64 bit Windows 7 Computer (Lenovo X230) and using a Ubuntu 12.04 64bit with virtual box as a guest system.
I am using virtual box version 4.3.9 (newest one). Guest additions are installed.

I never had problems with this, but last Friday I was not able to access the internet anymore from my guest system. I did some google searches and found same hints but couldn't fix the problem.
After several reinstallations of Virtual Box and reboots the connection worked suddenly again.

But this morning the problem occured again and was not able to fix it the same way.

My network settings are set to NAT in virtual box (screenshot attached).

I also attached two screenshot about the settings inside the guest system.
The connection between host and guest seem to work, I can also use my shared folder to transfer files.

But I can not access the internet from within the guest system. I tryed to ping google and also to open some webpage with firefox.

I also attached a screenshot of my windows networksetting.

Update:

I could figure out now that it must be some DNS problem.
When I ping the IP adress of google or enter the IP of google in firefox (inside the guest), everythink works as expected.

Any hints how to solve that issue?

what do you get if you type in the guest :

Code: Select all

nslookup google.com

Thanks for helping. That is what I get:

stefan@vbox:~$ nslookup google dot com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

(I have to write "dot com" here, because I cant posts URLs since my account on this forum is new)

I should mentioned, that last night I was at home and everythink worked fine there.
Now I am back at work and its broken again, like yesterday.

What happens if you try to ping the IPs?

Another Information:
I also tested a old ubuntu in my VBox. (Ubuntu 10, which I used before and still had the files).
Within this Ubuntu10 vbox the internet works fine. The Vbox settings are the same for both versions.
I attached two screenshots of the network settings.

Again in short: Ubuntu 10 and 12 are running with the same settings on windows 7 host. Ubuntu 12 cant connect to the DNS server, ubuntu 10 works fine.

They are NOT running with the same configuration.
The DNS servers are not the same on both screens. What about trying the DNS servers that works in your non-working VM?
