Switching Workspaces (Ubuntu) Causes VM to abort

Post by mbakerDPS »

All,

I've noticed in the last few versions of Virtualbox for Linux (Ubuntu) hosts that switching workspaces will cause the VM (windows guest) to crash aka abort. Has anyone else experienced or reported this?

Versions:
Ubuntu: 12.04, 64 Bit, 8gb RAM
Virtualbox: 4.3.6 (guest additions installed and updated as of posting)
Windows Guest Version: Win 7 64 Bit 2gb RAM

Log files attached, though I'm not sure which ones will describe the crash/abort...

I'm not sure what other information to give besides log files (which I don't know how to read), so please let me know if I can help pin this down more.

Thanks,

-mb

I see you've provided four logs. Which of them is from a session that demonstrates the problem?

Also, I notice you say this causes the "VM (windows guest) to abort". Do you mean that the VM window closes, or you mean that the guest OS rebooted itself but the VM actually kept running?
Edit:  VBox.log.2 looks like the suspicious one. I also notice that you were using the 4.3.4 GAs at the time - or at least it started that way, but had upgraded them before the next log. If the problem still happens with updated GAs then please try to capture a (single) log file showing that. There certainly seemed to be plenty of display activity, but you also seemed to have been using a USB device at the time. If possible eliminate that complicating factor from the test.

@mpack

The VM (guest) window just vanishes, while the VM manager window stays open.

VM manager shows the crashed guest VM as being 'aborted'.

When I restart it, I get the Windows "how do you want to start Windows" message, as if it had gone through a hard crash.

Yes - I will try to re-post a log file when this happens...

Thank you for your help!

I'm attaching a log file for a crash I just experienced.

Let me know if this helps.
