I am running a Windows 7 host, IBM Thinkpad T440p (brand new). Trying to use a Windows XP guest image.
The guest image will not boot, simply shows the XP startup screen then resets, this loop continues until I close the VM. Occassionally there is a blip of a blue screen of death but can't quite capture it because it is not up long enough.
The image boots just fine in safe mode.
Log file seems to indicate that the reset is being initiated by keyboard controller. As this repeats over
00:00:10.163102 Reset initiated by keyboard controller.
I am using the latest Virtual box software (also tried a previous version 3.2, with same outcome)
Hope someone can help.
Thanks, Mike

Re: XP image will not boot - Reset initiated by keyboard con
From the user manual:
How to record bluescreen info from Windows guests.
Once you have the VM booting then you should disable the "automatic restart on error" feature.
Provide a VM log file if you want to continue this discussion. Minimum information needed for assistance.

Re: XP image will not boot - Reset initiated by keyboard con
Thank you for the help. I ran the command as indicated and I have attached the blue screen and log file.
As noted the VM runs fine in safe mode. And I imagine there is some hardware incompatibility between my new laptop and the image. The image works fine on older Thinkpads that my colleagues use but not on this one.
Edit - I am actually getting a few different blue screens each time I try to restart. I'm not sure if the log file that I attached provided enough detail or if more would be helpful. Please advise. I am only a user of VM's and have never run into a problem like this before.

Re: XP image will not boot - BSOD
I seem to have solved my intelppm.sys BSOD by following the below link instructions that disabled it on startup via the registry. I can't post the link because I have only been a member for 1 day
I now can boot the XP image but it freezes and BSOD on aksfridge.sys ...
Will continue to google investigate and post.
Here's my latest log.

Re: XP image will not boot -BSOD
That is a fairly common error (as you will find if you google it) and is not related to VirtualBox.

Re: XP image will not boot -BSOD
Thanks for the push in the right direction. After disabling intelppm.sys and aksfridge.sys via the registry looks like the image is working.
I appreciate the help.
