I have doubt

I have shared a folder from my windows host and now i am able to see that folder in Linux using automount and following command.

sudo /sbin/mount.vboxsf -o gid=1000,uid=1000 shared ~/shared

But the problem is i am not able to write anything over there.

its say's read only system file.

How to make shared folder writable.

I need help guys please reply if anyone knows.

If you have automount, you shouldn't need to "mount". That's what the "auto" is for . It should mount in "/mnt/sf_*".

Naive question, but, in the "VM settings -> Shared folders" does it say "Read-only" or "Full"?

i have unchecked the the Read only option over there and It has full access.

But still i am not able write the stuff in that folder or change anything from existing files

If there are any commands let me know how to make it writable with example.

If you continue to use automount you need to add your user name to the vboxsf group on the guest.
I have found that while it allows you write access it does not work as well as manually mounting the device.

I found that what you have mentioned and automounted folders are Put under Media directory.

But again that is not solving my problem.

Actually my main concern is i have one directory created in Guest linux environment. Now i want to accsess that on my windows machine with read write permission. Is there a way to do that.

This is the opposite of what your subject says; you want a "Writable shared guest folder". This is NOT a VirtualBox issue and you might have better luck using your favorite search engine to look up "Samba sharing Linux".

Socratis: Samba share wont work on Virtual box. if i want to access the shared directory from guest on same host machine, its not possible i think.
By the way i will be more happy if you could answer if you know.

Actually nothing works in VirtualBox, as it is just another application, except Operating Systems. Normal network shares and done OS to OS. Samba allows you to share folders, Etc. over the LAN and if you have the LAN set to Bridged or Host-Only it will work.
