I have an Ubuntu installation on a partition on my Mac and I would like to boot Ubuntu from within Mac OS X using VirtualBox. When I want to start the machine I only get

Error loading operating system

I followed more or less these instructions for the setup.

I have also tried a ton of different settings for the virtual machine (IDE vs SATA, IO-APIC, etc.), none of them bringing me closer. Here is a summary:

MacBook Pro 2009

Host: MAC OS X Mavericks on /des/disk0s2

Guest: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit on /des/disk0s4

sudo chmod 777 /dev/disk0s4

What instructions? I suspect you refer to rawdisk access. You *DO* realize that it is an advanced topic and you could hose your entire system (including your host) if you don't do it "right", right?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am well aware, that I could damage my host. It's also not the first time that I do virtualizations, including rawdisk access.Though I am new to VB.

In that case, I cannot decide whether you are brave or raving mad! I have been at this for more years than I care to remember and I would not attempt raw access.

It has been a while . . .
Easier to establish raw access under VMware Fusion than VirtualBox. For one one thing, there are persons on that forum who are not intimidated by the concept.

They are certainly not afraid to interfere with the host OS either.

Did you do a google search for bootcamp site:forums.virtualbox.org?
If you do, note How to Use a MacOS Bootcamp Partition as a VirtualBox Guest
Use it as a guide and remember to use the vb manual for vboxmanage
