Can anyone explain to me why this might be the case? Or if you _haven't_ encountered this issue under the same circumstances, please let me know. I am behind a company firewall but as I say, the proxy info allowed the installer to download packages so I'm convinced it's a guest OS issue.
Host: Win 7 64bit with 16GB RAM
Network card: Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection
Guest Debian 7
Base Memory 2048 MB
Acceleration PAE NX
Video Memory 128MB
Network Intel PRO 1000 MT Desktop
Extended Features Enable IO APIC
Network Adapter Bridged Adapter
Promiscuous Mode Allow All
Cable Connected True
Port Forwarding None
With this setup, the Debian mini iso was able to boot and download an entire system through the proxy I defined there. But now that I'm on the Gnome desktop, Firefox can't access the web and I can't ping out either - to a url or an ip address.

Re: Debian can access internet during install but not after?
Solved by removing the "http://" from the beginning of the proxy address.
