Hi,
I have VirtualBox installed in our business here and I need it to connect to our domain as a different user in AD than the Host machine. I've tried using different network adapters to no avail. It continues to say that Windows could not find the domain, even though everything is being entered correctly.
I have Windows 7 Professional x86 installed on both Host and Guest.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Connecting as different user on Domain
All you should need to do is set the networking to bridged and restart the vm. The vm should then get its network config from DHCP on the LAN and behave just like any other machine on the LAN. All my vms work like that.
Compare the network config of the guest with that of the host. They should be identical except for the actual IP address.

Thanks for the response!
As of now, I boot up the VM with a Bridged adapter, and I have an Internet connection even though it's not on the Domain yet. It cannot find the Domain when I try and add it, even though all my credentials are correct and everything is spelled properly (double checked on the Domain controller).
Ipconfig confirms that everything except for the IP are the same on host and guest. I can ping the DC from the VM as well.
Any suggestions?
Re: Connecting as different user on Domain
I've done what you are trying to do many times, I've added / removed PCs several times. When on the bridged adapter it should look like any other PC on the network. Have you joined the PC itself to the domain? I realize you mention "try and add it" but you are trying to add the PC to the domain from the VM's correct? You have the client for MS networks installed? File and Printer sharing for MS? You're going through the guests "Computer name, domain and workgroup" settings? Are there multiple NICs in the host? If so are they on two different networks and are you binding the guest NIC to the correct one?
It sounds like this is an OS issue and NOT a VBox issue.

Yes, the host PC is already authenticated with Administrator rights on the domain.I'm trying to add the guest to the domain and all of the client, services and protocols are already installed. NetBIOS is running and functioning properly and there is only one NIC on the host.
Re: Connecting as different user on Domain
Try shutting of netbios, it leads to weird things. You really shouldn't need it unless you still have a bunch of Win 9X machines you need to talk to.
Re: Connecting as different user on Domain
I solved it.
It appears that since I installed Windows 7, it had about 150 updates it needed to install. I kept closing out the VM and never actually restarted it within Windows and those updates were never installing, which was holding things up. Easy mistake to make with a VM I suppose.
Thanks!

Re: Connecting as different user on Domain
It's best to just think of a VM as a physical machine, and just closing the VM is like yanking a power cord out of a real machine. This can lead to OS corruption and "disk" issues.
Glad you got it figured out, it's the silliest things sometimes.
