Switching between hosts OS

Post by iperussi »

Hello there!
I use to run WinXP as guest in my macbook. However I got a new laptop (a HP Windows 8 ) and I installed VirtualBox on it. I transferred the WinXP VDI image to the new host (HP Windows 8 ) but when I start the virtual machine I got a blue death screen (that blink so fast that I can't read the error) and the virtual machine is rebooted. I'm able to load WinXP only safe mode.

Is possible a WinXP guest (VDI) that used to run on a macintosh run on a Windows 8?

Best Regards!

Please read: Howto: Move a VM. If the VM makes any reference to specific host paths or device names then these will need to be manually removed or corrected since the host OS has changed.

Finally I'm able to run Windows XP guest on a Windows 8 host. I could not be able to run, exporting and importing, cloning or just copying the .dvi file or any other VirtualBox feature/tool.

I downloaded an update version of STPD.sys and installed on XP through the safe mode. This file is about a SCSI controller.

Seems the issue is something related to storage controller and it's about VirtualBox issue cause now I can run Windows XP but I have 2 other Linux guests and it just does not run, with the same problem in the initialisation and in this case I can't just use SPTD.sys to fix it.

I think this is something the VirtualBox developer team should take a look.

Download the file at: http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads

That it! Thanks for your support.

Best regards.

So... let me understand. You chose to have a SCSI controller in your VM, instead of an IDE and you believe that the developer team that should look at it??? Change the SCSI controller to an IDE controller and see if that fixes it.

Then why did you have to install a SCSI controller in order to make it boot? After posting the information asked for by this article, open up a Terminal and post the following output as well:

VBoxManage showvminfo "<NameOfYourVM>"
