Mounting VM Disk as Real Disk

Is there a tool that would allow one to mount a VirtualBox disk as though it were a physical disk?
I wish to read and write to a VM disk, outside of the VirtualBox application. I need the disk to appear as a physical disk.
This would be a MacOS host and the virtual disk would be MacOS formatted. I wish to use applications such as Super Duper or CarbonCopy Cloner directly with the virtual disk.
Once I've finished writing to the disk, I can then insert the virtual disk into a VM.

Thank you kindly,

W.

AFAIK, there is a project called VBoxFUSE which (theoretically, as in I haven't tried it myself) makes it possible to mount a VBox virtual disk as an external disk. It's not for the faint of heart. It's simply a C file that you have to compile, build and install yourself. Don't look for fancy installers. Use it if you're a hard core developer. And be sure to make backups!
