I am familar withe the incorporation of USB devices into XP running in the VirtualBox.
Is the RS232 of my docking station of the IBM x61s native in the Win98?

A VM's virtual serial port can be associated with a host serial port. That is true regardless of what software (OS) is running inside the VM. However performance may not be all you could wish. You might be better off giving the guest direct access to a USB-RS232 adapter, if you can find a Win98 driver for one.
