SimCity 5

Post by Tom7 »

Has anyone had any luck getting SimCity 5 running on a Windows 7 guest? I'm trying on a Win7 guest / Win7 host (because I'm allowed to install whatever I've got a license for in a VM but not on the host). When I try to start the game, I get:

Sorry, your graphics card is below our min spec.
The game will not run.
Please see the readme for details [2001].

I can't say it's a big surprise, just wondering if anyone knew of a workaround...

Thanks,
Tom

Have you enabled 3D acceleration? And following that, did you install the GAs, with 3D support? Until you install the GAs the guest has only a basic VESA graphics card.

Hi,

Unfortunately I having a similar Issue. I have already enabled 3D acceleration, plus installed GAs in safemode with D3D. However I still receive that "Sorry, your graphics card is below our min spec." Which cannot be, because I have an Intel i5 CPU (Haswell 2013) with HD graphics. It should be far enough... :(

Host OS: Ubuntu 14.04. (64bit)
Guest OS: Win 7 (64bit)
Virtualbox: 4.3.10_Ubuntu r93012

Any Idea?

I'll note that the graphics hardware on the host doesn't matter, because the software isn't running on the host. The OpenGL drivers on the host might matter, so it might be worth checking for updates.

Ultimately you may need to contact the SimCity people to find out what their message means. No-one here can tell you that with any certainty.

The issue appears to be that the minimum spec has 512MB of graphics memory, while the limit on the VBox VM is 256MB.
