Deploying windows

Post by mille1j »

I plan on setting up windows (probably 7 or 8) on 2 mac minis and 7 iMacs

Setting up windows takes time, lots of time. And then in 4 months my users will probably have broken everything.

I'd prefer to setup windows once and clone that virtual machine to each computer.

However, if I did this the hard way, install windows on them one by one, I'd have 9 windows activation codes, one for each machine.

Basically, is there a way for me to use a master virtualbox machine, install everything my users need, update it as needed, then every couple of months (or even better push changes out automatically) send a snapshot of that machine out to users to replace their old one (that they've probably broken, installed a bunch of crap on, etc)

Litterally copy the VM folder accross to your machines, making sure the UUIDs of the VM and the disks didn't change (so don't use clone)

Awesome.

So, for an initial install, having a fully configured virtual machine that gets deployed as part of a netrestore ought to work! And then when I make changes to the virtual box, I ought to be able to push it out using Apple Remote Desktop. I'll let u know if it works!
