Not able to enter the username itself while login to linux.

Post by skmdmustafa »

Hi All,

I am facing a weird issue. I have installed a virtual box on windows7 host and on top of it I installed RHEL5.5 as guest. I was able to login to the guest linux machine and able to do all the operations successfully.
But suddenly from this evening, I am not able to use the keyboard after launching the Linux guest thru virtual box.
Only the control keys are working, like right Ctrl, Ctrl+s, Ctrl+c. But not the actual keyboard.
I am not even able to enter the username/password to login into the machine. While pressing the keyboard keys the virtual box view is changing from full screen to scale and scale to full screen. This happens when any of the key pressed.

Kindly help me in resolving this issue.

Thanks,
Mustafa

Make sure you have not assigned a USB filter for the keyboard or mouse. (in the guests settings -> USB)

Hi Perry,

Thanks for your reply!!!

I have checked in guest settings, but there is no filter assigned to keyboard or mouse.

The same issue still persists. The operating system is booting perfectly, but when it is asking to login into the system no key of the keyboard is working.
If I press any key on the keyboard it is taken as the resizing of the VirtualBox window, like fullscreen to scalable or scalable to fullscreen repeatedly.
Only the control keys are working, like right ctrl (Host), Ctlr+shift+backspace etc..,

Kindly provide me some solution to this as this is very important for me, I have installed R12 on this guest linux with lots of efforts.

Thanks,
Mustafa

Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Hi Socratis,

Thank you for the information on how to post the issue details.

Below are details of the Configuration I have used:

Virtual Box Version : 4.3.6
I haven't installed the guest additions CD. But installed the Virtualbox extension pack.
Host: Windows 7 - 64 Bit - 4GB RAM
Guest: RHEL5.5 - 32 Bit - 2GB RAM

It was working perfectly till 23rd Dec 2013. But from the next day onwards facing the below issue.

Attached the log files too.

Thanks,
Mustafa

Logs don't show anything out of the ordinary. Let's talk about what changed since it was working and when it failed. What changed?
Do you shut the guest down or save the state?
At this moment it appears to be within the guest.
