damn! this sucks! it does seem kinda weird though. i can ping out and reach sites but all browsers and apps fail to reach out. i have tcp/ip set to obtain ip address automatically but i don't remember if that's how it was before. thanks once again for all your help Perryg. im gonna check the guest local are connection settings, maybe something there is wonky.

Check if you have a proxy configured in your IE conneciton settings - that would cause issues to applications & browsers but not to the ping command.

internet settings has no proxy enabled. im going to try flushing dns and releasing ip to see what happens.

thats it! i give up! im gonna reinstall my host os in a few weeks. maybe then it will work. thanks for the help Perryg and you as well noteirak. if the issue persists ill come back then. thanks and happy holidays!

One last question. When was the last power down of the host. Not reboot but complete power down. Although rare I have seen NIC's get confused and a power down was the only way to clear it.

now that im on winter break from school i shut my pc down nightly. im almost sure that its my host setup that is causing the problem. you said that nothing installed in the host system could cause problems with the guest but im sure there is something causing interference. i haven't refreshed my host install since January so its time to clean my ssd and re install win7.
