Windows XP on VB Internet Explorer not working

I can see on my XP VB Client that my Local Area Connection status shows connected at 100.0 mps. But I cannot configure my VB client to be able to connect to the Internet. I have tried the built in 'Repair' function on XP but it fails. When I tried the cmd ipconfig it shows Media State Disconnected. Is there a setting in VB? What to do to get my VB Client on Mac being able to connect to the Internet? (I no lomger have the orginival XP instll disk). Any ideas? Help appreciated.
