GUI won't start in Debian guest VM after some upgrades

Post by xinelo »

Hi there,

I have run into trouble after trying to upgrade my Debian installation in a virtual machine to try to fix some broken dependencies.

When I start the virtual machine, it never makes it into the graphical interface. The prompt stops after saying:

Code: Select all

Starting Virtualbox Guest Addition service Virtualbox Additions module not loaded!
(...)
startpar: service(s) returned failure: vboxadd vboxadd-service ... failure!
After that, I can only use the command line (where I'm helpless).

The host is Mac OS X 10.6.8
The guest is Debian 6.0 (according to /etc/issue)
kernel: 2.6.32-5-686 (according to uname -r)

Could someone please help? I don't know what information you would need to have.

Thanks a lot in advance.
Cheers, Manuel

Post the guests /var/log/vboxadd-install.log (as an attachment )
