Serial port guest host connection

Hi,

I need to connect my host and the virtual (guest) machine over a serial link. Gdb needs to run over that serial connection. Any hints on how to proceed?
Both systems are Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop i386, using VB 4.3.6 with guest extensions. Have activated com1 on guest and working on com for host.

Actually, further research shows that recent gdb versions can have also TCP connections to the remote target. Therefore, no serial interface is needed.
