Virtualbox stops responding after Linux install

Post by Soeren »

Hey guys,

hope you can help me, ive been having some problems with installing Ubuntu 13.10 through my virtualbox.
Everything runs smoothly until the installation finishes and it asks for a reboot. If i click 'restart now', the virtualbox stops responding, and i have to start the installation all over again. ive tried reseting the virtualbox instead of clicking 'restart now', nothing helps, always the same result.

Ive tried it both on windows 7(32bit) and windows 8.1(64bit) (on different computers), ive even tried an older version of Oracles virtualbox.
Ive tried older Ubuntu versions and even openSUSE, always with the same result.
I enabled virtulization in the BIOS and everything, even gave it about 3gb of RAM and about 50gb hard drive.
Ive downloaded the extension pack and installed it too.

Please help... this problem is getting quiet annoying actually...
Thanks so much!

The problem is that you never removed the ISO from the Drive after the installation, so it starts all over again. The installation actually happened successfully, only the restart part failed.

Do the install, then before you click on "restart now", remove the installation ISO from the Virtual CD/DVD. Now click on restart now. If it still crashes, just restart the VM and you should be past the installation.

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately that didn't work. as soon as i removed the iso ubuntu froze. so i restarted the virtualbox, which then resulted in a critical error that stopped the execution...

ive started up the virtualbox about 10 times now, out of those 10, ubuntu booted twice. when it does, eveything run very slowly, but at least it boots. but the other 8 times i tried to boot, it gave me a critical error message, telling me to contact support. sometimes i get lucky, the error message doesnt appear and like i said, runs very slowly

Code: Select all

Guru Meditation 1155 (VINF_EM_TRIPLE_FAULT)
Seems to be a pattern when using AMD processors and VBox version 4.3.* You would be better off downgrading to 4.2.20 and wait for the next maintenance release of 4.3.6

I also noticed that you have not enabled 3D acceleration in the display and Ubuntu will be really slow when using software video acceleration. Enable it and add the proper guest additions to the guest.

Note: the next time just compress the log file instead of splitting it.

alright, yes that sounds like a good idea. im doing the 3D acceleration right now, its a real pain doing everything in slow motion...
