I've downloaded the 4.2.6 version (yes, yes, I know, it's an extremely old version, but I won't bother explaining why I got this version), and I'm trying to use a tutorial, and I'm a bit confused. I'll quote the tutorial so it'll be easier to help:

"1. Run VirtualBox. Select your haiku image then click settings.
Select Serial ports. Tick the tickbox "Enable Serial port". Change Port Mode to "Raw File".

Then set the name and directory of the file to be saved in File Path.

And click start (virtual machine) or double click your Haiku image.

2. Once you open the file on the designated path, you can make sure it has been debugg."

I understand the first step (at least I think-it's just set the thing to COM1 and the thing underneath to "Raw File" and click "Start"), but I don't really understand the whole "open the file on the designated path" part. Can anyone please help me?

That is not anything to do with VirtualBox. That is haiku setup. Who wrote the tutorial?

It seemed to be working fine until I came to this step:

"The settings window allows the user to configure the hardware aspects of the virtual machine guest OS will be using. First of all we need to attach our ISO image with haiku installation to the virtual machine, in a form of emulated CD-ROM drive. To do that, we click Storage from the left panel, and then clicking on Empty in the Storage Tree. Then we click on the CD icon next to the CD/DVD Device drop-down list:
CD/DVD Device
Now we click on Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file.... In the new window we point to the location where we stored our Haiku ISO installation and then Click Open to confirm."

Also, the tutorial was for version 3.2 of VirtualBox. When I tried to complete this step, the two options I would have to add as a selection would be "hypertrm.dll" or "hypertrm.exe". Is neither of them working because of the difference in the versions?

I'm really curious why you need 4.2.6 in particular. I've been a long time BeOS developer and user and also Haiku. Haiku VMs work perfectly with 4.3.4. No, I'm not asking you to upgrade, but I'm still curious why you need 4.2.6 and if it is related to Haiku as a guest OS.
