VirtualBox since 4.2.18: Win7 x64 Host Appcrash in ntdll.dll

Hello!
Maybe someone of you has a good idea how to trace down a problem with the latest versions of VBox:
I'm still using VBox 4.2.16 since all later releases including the 4.3.x series crash immediately in ntdll.dll after launching the VBox GUI:
Exception code: c0000005
Exception offset: 00000000000508c5
Someone else here reported to have a similar crash with a virtual networking adapter. I don't have that. I'm using a built in Realtek NW card. I tried updating its device drivers for Realtek as well as the Asmedia and Intel USB 3.0 drivers without success. I also disabled the devices, no success.
Updating from 4.2.16 to any newer version always crashes VBox, downgrading back to 4.2.16 immediately brings VBox back - Linux and Windows XP and Windows 7 guests - all no problem. It also doesn't matter whether the Extension Pack is installed or not. Clean install also doesn't help.
It happens on two nearly identical systems based on Asus P8-Z77V-LE, latest BIOS with Core i7 3770 and onboard HD4000 graphics. RAM:16GB, system is on SSD, Intel RAID is on.
For VBox 4.3.4 I tried to start VirtualBox.exe in Compatibility Mode (Windows 2008) and the GUI came up. But then I wanted to install the Extension Pack: In this case it crashes in VBoxExtPackHelperApp.exe, same exception code and address in ntdll.dll.
Is there any chance to trace down what causes the crash in ntdll.dll?
Thank you in advance!
Kind regards
Chris
