Error BIOS running virtual machine

Post by sbl »

Hello,

I installed the last version of Virtualbox in a Windows 7 system, 64 bits. The Guest system I want to use is a Xubuntu system I have downloaded to my desktop in disk image format (called "CMG-biotools", if anyone out there has been using it). I've been following the instructions of the writer of this system. I was also able to set up a shared folder in Virtualbox. However, when I tried to set it up also in the virtual computer through the terminal, I got an error. I also noticed that every time that I would close the virtual computer or Virtualbox or turned off the computer, the next time I had to define the Guest system storage again. So I though I should delete this virtual computer and re-install it. But this time, when trying to start the virtual computer to install the Guest system etc., I got this error message:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine CMG - biotools.

VT-x is disabled in the BIOS. (VERR_VMX_MSR_VMXON_DISABLED).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6}
I uninstalled Virtualbox from my computer through the Ctrl Panel, re-installed it again, trying to re-install the virtual machine and got the same error.

I should mention that in the mean time I added 4 Gb of memory to the computer. Could this have changed any configuration in the BIOS? I did not do it myself, so I can't really say if someone touched somewhere else in the system and changed some configuration.

I'd really appreciate some help here :-)

I searched the forum for this error. There is one thread about it, but no answer. If I should send a Log or something else, please let me know how to find it.

Thanks!

There actually about 2760 results according to Google. The VirtualBox message is very helpful. VT-x is disabled in the BIOS. Read on your computer/motherboard documentation how to enable it.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
