VPN on host PC affecting VM SSH git (ubuntu guest)

Just a minor point, I've having trouble doing a git pull/push when I'm using a VPN connection on my Windows 7 PC. As soon as it disconnects, the ubuntu VM git SSH commands work fine. Anyone know why it would do this and how to fix it? If I git push from my IDE in Windows it works fine, just not in the VM.
