Hello
i am new on this forum and hope that someone will be able to help me
i had been using parallels desktop for some time but when i updated to maverick i had to buy another licence for paralleld desktop which i do not want to do
so i installed Virtual Box as i just need to run a fez=w applications from time to time on windows
my problem is that i do not have a DVD rom on the mac mini : i usually use the DVD rom of a nac book which is on the same network.
When i created the virtual machine i have been unable to tell virtual box to install windozs XP from the original CD i own which was in the DVD player of the mac book pro.
i had desinstalled parallels desktop from the mac mini so i guessed windows xp is not installed anymore.
Any idea on how i could install windows xp on my mac mini ?
thanks for your help

You could use Disk Utility on on the MacBook Pro to create a .cdr of the Win XP install disc and then copy that over to the Mac Mini and use it to install into VirtualBox.

Yes i have done that : created an iso of the windows XP cd and put it on the Mac Mini
the installation of windows XP then starts but very quickly i have a message saying that as i do not have any CD or DVD on the mac mini the installation process has to be stopped...

1) Open the "Preferences" of the VM.
2) Click on the Storage.
3) Select the CD-ROM device.
4) Click on the CD icon (see attached image).
5) Point it to your .iso file.
6) Boot the machine...

Thanks for your help
i actually managed to install windows by using Daemon Lite to mount the iso file as a DVD and it worked perfectly
Might have worked with your solution though..

Re: Installing Windows XP on a Mac Mini
So now windows XP is installed and updated to SP3 but it is VERY VERY slow especially when i try too install some small programs.
Seems that just after launching the VM the speed is OK but after a while the VM is almost frozen
any good idea ?

i increased the size of the memory of the VM from initially 192mb to 1024 and then 2048 and it greatly helped !
