Running windows from the image

I'm a mac user but had to run something on windows. So I installed a virtual box on my mac and used a windows 7 DVD (belong to my department ) to run it on my virtual machine.
Now each time that I start my virtual machine it asks me for the DVD to run windows from. The problem is I can't keep the DVD and I have to return it as soon as I can :(
I did a bit of research and I realised if I make an image from windows on my virtual machine, I can use that one and I don't need the DVD anymore. However, I have not managed to that yet :?
When I try to create an image it asks me where to store it and although I have a USB inserted to my host machine (my imac), it doesn't recognise it. I know that alternatively I can use a share network but just don't access to one :|
To short the story cut, I managed to waste all the day without any success. Could you PLEASE advice me?

Many thanks

Why would it ask for the install DVD if in fact you did install it? I would seek help from your IT support about installing Windows 7. There is actually nothing in VirtualBox that would prevent it from installing and working as if it were on metal.

1) Insert DVD.
2) Launch "Disk Utility" (under "Utilities").
3) Select DVD on the left side.
4) File | New | Disk image from <DVD>.
5) From the dropdown "Image Format", select DVD/CD master.
6) Go get some coffee...
7) Use the <DVD>.cdr in VBox.
