Windows XP Guest to Windows 8.1 host printer sharing

Post by crazyj3d1 »

Hi

I'm having difficulty getting my hp 1000 printer to work. As the printer doesn't work on my Windows 8.1 host, I created a Windows XP guest on VirtualBox and installed the printer's drivers on the guest. So far the printer is working fine on the guest, but I seem to be unable to share the printer from the guest to the host. Is this even possible?

I should add that my host is connected to a Linux server, and there are numerous other machines connected to the server, however there is no actual network. We just use the server for storage purposes. Aside from this there is no other form of communication between any of the machines.

I'll be honest and say that I'm completely new at using VirtualBox, and although I've tried getting help from the forums, I haven't really found anything that's helped.

Any help would be appreciated.

Set a host-only interface in the host and in the VM, and you will get regular networking between host & guest. You can then share your printer and it will be seen by the host.
