Hello,
I am currently using Virtualbox 4.3.0 r89960 to run VM's in a computer suite at the school I am the Network Manager at.
It is currently set to have no NIC's and 1 shared folder so students can copy work to and from the VM.
I have now been asked to look into the possablility of allowing internet access on the VM's but still disallowing any access to the school network.
Is this possible with VirtualBox? If so, could someone please point me in the right direction?
Thank you,
Mark

Re: Allow internet but disallow network
Three ways you could do this, depending on what's available to you :
- Using NAT or Host-Only, you can user the Windows host firewall to only allow access to outside network, or block the internal ones.
- Using Bridged, you can block specific traffic coming from the VBox MACs or specific IPs if you have a dedicated DHCP for them.
Note that, except for the VBox settings, all this is not related to Virtualbox but is network security in general, and you should think that way when seeking for answers or way of doing things.
