Update to 4.3.4r91027 diabled USB support

Post by RobInHawaii »

Similar to another post, but different. Prior to updating, Virtual Box running XP SP3 in Win8 worked just fine. After update to 4.3.4r91027, says "No USB Devices Connected" even after running the VirtualBox Guest Additions 4.3.4 Setup Wizard and re-booting (several times installing, rebooting both VirtualBox and Win8.)

CD/DVD Devices for VBGuestAdditions.iso selected and checked.

Update now shows more available devices than before such as webcams, but I don't care about that. I need to access USB2.0 devices (external drives, printer) that worked before the update.

Cannot System Restore Win8 to time prior to upgrade because that causes Virtual Box not to run.. some kind of funky error message. So I restored Win8 back to current settings. Everything seems fine except "No USB Devices Connected."

Seems my only option now is to completely restore the C:\ partition from a backup image to a time prior to upgrade. Pain in the you-know-what, unless you can offer help. Thanks

I don't know if this suggestion will solve your specific problem but before completely redoing your host system, I'd suggest uninstalling the current version of VirtualBox & guest additions. Then download and install version 4.2.16 with its associated guest additions. These USB problems surfaced with version 4.2.18 and continue. It's worth a shot before resorting to complete host system overhaul.

Guest Additions have nothing whatever to do with USB support.

I see no mention that the extension pack was updated?
