[Solved] illegal seek for VB 4.3.4

I downloaded Virtualbox-4.3.4-91027-OSX.dmg to my Macbook Pro running OSX 10.7.5. When I double-click the .dmg in the downloads folder, I get a warning that the disk image could not be opened. Reason: illegal seek. Has anyone seen this before? Any idea what the problem might be? Thanks for any assistance.

Hi,

Check if in the preference pane / Security you allow all the programs to be installed.
The virtual box dmg is maybe not signed.
Just allow the installs from everywhere, install VB, put back the security config.

Hope this helps !

That was not an option with 10.7.x. I would try to re-download the .dmg and get a checksum of said file, in case it was a corrupt download. Open up Terminal (in the Utilities) and type:

openssl dgst -md5 /<PathOfTheDMG>/VirtualBox-4.3.4-91027-OSX.dmg
or (/and)
openssl dgst -sha256 /<PathOfTheDMG>/VirtualBox-4.3.4-91027-OSX.dmg

Compare this number with the information on the Downloads page (where it says SHA256, MD5 checksum).

The checksum values were different. After trashing the first download and re-downloading, the .dmg and the extension pack both installed without a hitch.

Thanks for your insights and assistance.
