Can't run .iso or .vdi in VB 4.3.4 on Win7 Professional

I am having a problem running LinuxMint in a new install of Virtualbox 4.3.4r91027. Virtualbox extension pack is also installed. Running VB from a user account with full admin rights.

I have tried linuxmint-16-cinnamon-dvd-32bit.iso (and the 64bit version) as well as linuxmint-16-mate-dvd-64bit-rc.vdi from Virtualbox images.

For the iso images, I created a new virtual hard drive using the defaults. Started the drive and then under 'select start-up disk', chose the .iso. In both cases, the Linux Mint logo would come up with a brief count down to boot and then nothing...the logo remained but Mint never booted.

With the .vdi I got into Grub, but when choosing to launch Mint, a cursor appears in the upper left hand corner of the screen but nothing further.

This is a fresh install of Virtualbox on a re-imaged hard drive on a Toshiba laptop, 64bit, Windows 7 Professional. I've had VB running in the past with no problem so I'm scratching my head as to what I'm doing wrong.

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Thanks for such a prompt response. How do I find the guests log file? Under VB Manager, Machine>show log, I see the Vbox.log file but after searching find nothing related to a guests log file.

Do you mean log on as a guest user and pulling the vbox.log?

right click on the guest in the main manager, then left click on show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if needed.

00:00:01.135109 Guest OS type: 'Ubuntu'
00:00:01.287897 Name <string> = "Mint64b" (cb=8)

You need to be sure and select Ubuntu_64 instead of Ubuntu since the guest is 64 bit

Example:
Ubuntu = 32-bit
Ubuntu_64 = 64-bit
