fail to install Ubuntu7.10 on Vista Enterprise

Hello,
I'm trying to use VirtualBox the first time and I'm having problem. I have Vista Enterprise Edition as host OS. I'd like to have a virtual Linux box and I decided to install Ubuntu 7.10 as a virtual OS. I downloaded the iso file for Ubuntu. When I start the VM, it loads the image and it shows me options for starting and installing Ubuntu. I select the first one whichis install. Then the VM screen gets black and the host machine gets frozen (well, mouse cursor is still moving). I tried several times, waited about 10 minutes, no luck. CTRL-ALT-DEL does not react. I have to power cycle my machine to get out of this state.
Any idea what is happening?
Thanks in advance.
PS: Although I didn't finish but I tried installing WindowsXP. That didn't freeze.
