Palm PDA Hotsync fails - Windows XP 32 Guest

I get a error "USB device not recognized" when syncing a Palm 515 using PalmOne software version 6.2
I have set a USB filter, and when the sync button is pressed - the Devices-USB drop down shows a Palm One device - so the hardware link does work to some extent within VB. However device manager should also show a Palm device while the sync is running and it does not.
I did a fresh install of Palm 6.2 from the Guest Win XP and also installed the Pimlico software PalmHotSyncSetup compatabilty utility
