green screen error in windows host

I an using virtual machine on windows 7 64 bit host for windows XP sp2 guest . while adding pendrive to the windows xp guest in the virtual machine the host operating system shuts down with an windows green screen error . likely giving the message to prevent the damage the windows is shutting down
